OCCULT DETECTIVE CLUB – Alright Gentlemen 7″ and BIG EYES – Hard Life tape

Two new releases out today!

OCCULT DETECTIVE CLUB – ALRIGHT GENTLEMENT 7″
Nervous powerpop from Denton by people who have brought you bands like Maaster Gaiden, Stymie, and A.N.S. This new 7″ follows two LPs (one on Alive and one on Red Lounge) and a split 10″ with Something Fierce (Dirtnap). Fucking great stuff!

BIG EYES – HARD LIFE TAPE
One of my favorite releases of the past few years. Big Eyes plays Ramones, Muffs, and Joan Jett inspired punk rock. This is their debut 12 song LP originally released on Don Giovani, but with new art. Killer!

Marked Men – All four LPs on Tapes!

Dirt Cult and Dirtnap have teamed up to confuse you…and to bring you all four simply AMAZING Marked Men LPs (S/T, ON THE OUTSIDE, FIX MY BRAIN, GHOSTS) on everyone’s least favorite format…tapes! Head over to the store to buy them individually or you can buy all four at once for a discounted price.

Also, for those who pre-ordered Autonomy – The Art of Work in the Age of Digital Reproduction LP, Muhammadali – S/T 12″, and/or Sundowners – S/T 7″ they shipped to me yesterday and will be shipping to you next week. If you haven’t ordered, do so by the end of the week, because at that time I’ll be taking down the package and raising the prices a bit on each. Download codes are sent pretty immediately so you don’t have to wait to check them out.

Additionally, for those who pre-ordered and want to add the Marked Men tapes to your order, get in touch at dirtcultrecords@gmail.com and we’ll work something out.

7/10/12 News (new tapes and preorder specials)

Added a bunch of new Dirt Cult Releases to the store today. Let’s see, first a couple of tapes:

CRUSADES – THE SUN IS DOWN AND THE NIGHT IS RIDING IN TAPE
One of my favorite releases of 2011 (LP on Its Alive/Razorcake). Anti-Christian, pro-human pop punk from Ottawa (home of everything awesome). Absolutely essential listening. Limited to 250 tapes with alternate cover art. Shipping now!

LOW CULTURE – DEMO TAPE (repress)
Repress (on professionally made tapes) of the Low Culture demo from Dirt Cult/Dead Broke. Catchy garage pop from members of Shang-A-Lang.

Also, I’ve got three new records up for pre-order (shipping in August, but download codes will be sent immediately). (I’ve got a couple pre-order packages up in addition to the option to pre-order individually. You can get all three records for $21 (saving 20%) and you can also get the Sundowners Gnome & Glacier LP and new 7″ for $11 (saving 20%). Just click either “specials” or “Dirt Cult Releases” when in the store.)

AUTONOMY – THE ART OF WORK IN THE AGE OF DIGITAL REPRODUCTION LP
Dark and atomospheric anarcho-punk. This shit sounds like Joy Division and The Mob all at the same time. They’re from Carbondale and feature local hero Ray Suburbia. Honestly, this is one of my favorite Dirt Cult releases ever. So happy to be apart of putting this out. First 100 on blue vinyl.

MUHAMMADALI – S/T 12″
This Houston band has been around forever, but aside from their recent split with Unfun on A.D.D. records, hasn’t done any official releases. I’ve like them for a while, but the absolutely floored me at last year’s Awesome Fest, prompting me to immediately seek them out and ask them to do a record. I think these dudes do a lot of drugs. Imagine old Flaming Lips and Butthole Surfers mixed with Hickey, but not the poppy side of Hickey that most bands tend to emulate…more like the wacked out stoner stuff that I always sorta prefered. First 100 on yellow vinyl.

SUNDOWNERS – S/T 7″
Follow up to their great (and extremely underappreciated) LP on Dirt Cult a few years ago, Sundowners play hooky DIY punk for fans of bands like Frozen Teens, Future Virgins, and The Bananas. This is somehow better than the LP. Art by Justin Francis. First 100 on opaque yellow vinyl.

6/19/12

Back from the Iron Chic/Low Culture tour. Thanks to those who need thanking (you know who you are). We had a blast and I’m aleady anxious to get back out of town. But while I’m here, I’ve got a ton of catching up to do. If you ordered something while I was away it’ll go out this week for sure. Thanks for your patience.

We’ve also go a really exciting list of upcoming releases. These three records have been sent to the plant and you should expect some sort of color vinyl preorder package to go up around the time tests are approved:

MUHAMMADALI – S/T 12″ – This is what happens when some guys from Houston somehow combine the sloppy genius of Hickey with the detuned low-end guitar riffs of Hum and the acid induced pop melodies of early Flaming Lips. Seriously great. I think you’ll agree.

AUTONOMY – THE ART OF WORK IN THE AGE OF DIGITAL REPRODUCTION LP – Imagine Joy Division playing anarchopunk. This is dark, atmospheric, driving, and political punk. No Gods//No masters!

SUNDOWNERS – S/T 7″ – These guys just keep getting better! 4 songs of DIY punk played incredibly well. For fans of Frozen Teens, Future Virgins, and everything good in the world.

I’ve also got some other exciting stuff to announce in the coming weeks, but I’ll save that for another time.

LOW CULTURE – S/T 7″ OUT NOW!

In late 2011, when it was clear that Shang-A-Lang was ending because Andy was moving to Idaho and Total Jock (a short lived hardcore project) was over done because James made a quick decision to move to Albuquerque, I asked Cade and Sam (of Total Jock) if they wanted to start a new band.  We practiced a few times as a three-piece and recorded a 4-song demo.  A few weeks later Joe (Marked Men/Shang-A-Lang) announced that he was moving back to Las Cruces. The first day he was back, we went for beers before practice and I asked if he wanted to join the band. We showed up unannounced, Joe plugged in, learned some songs, and then I asked Cade and Sam if he could join the band. That’s kind of backwards I know, but it worked out. Low Culture’s first show in early November 2011 was at Shang-A-Lang’s last show. Circle of life…

Low Culture plays catchy garage punk that while not far removed from half of the band’s previous project, Shang-A-Lang, has a lot less emphasis on riffs and blown out recordings, and more emphasis on melody and crisp (while not necessarily “over-produced”) recordings. 4-songs, no download code but you can download it for pay what you will on any of the label’s Bandcamp sites. Split release with Dead Broke, Rad Girlfriend, and Drunken Sailor (UK).

The band will be doing a North-east and Canadian tour with Iron Chic in June. Here are the dates:

June 9th @ E. Setauket VFW (Long Island, NY) w/ Iron Chic, Sister Kisser, Fellow Project
June 10th @ Death by Audio (Brooklyn, NY) w/ Iron Chic, Laura Stevenson & the Cans, Swearin’
June 11th @ TBA (Hartford, CT) w/ Iron Chic
June 12th @ Starlab (Boston, MA) w/ Iron Chic, Awful Man, Billy Raygun, Dan Webb and the Spiders
June 13th @ L’Esco (Montreal, CAN) w/ Iron Chic, Prevenge, Dig it Up
June 14th @ Babylon (Ottawa, CAN) w/ Iron Chic, Crusades, Dead Weights, Robots Everywhere,
June 15th Hangin’ at Ottawa Explosion
June 16th @ TBA (Binghampton, NY) w/ Iron Chic
June 17th @ Shitfuckedhouse (Long Island, NY) w/ Crow Bait, Pretty Bullshit
