It had been a dream of mine, since the age of 13 when I was first introduced to Maximum Rock and Roll and underground punk/hardcore, to have my very only record label one day. Of course, at the time, I thought all the bands I listened to and all the labels I loved actually made money off of punk and didn’t have to work – that is until a member of my then favorite band, Brother Inferior was my barista one day at a local coffee shop. Dream crusher!
In the early months of 2006, when my new band (Shang-A-Lang) that no one knew or gave a shit about recorded material for a 7 inch, I figured “now is as good of a time as ever to actually fulfill my 13-year old fantasy,” and Dirt Cult Records was born. At the time, it was my friend Dillon and I running things and making decisions, but Dillon was a bigger fan of all things heavy than the DIY pop punk stuff I was more enamored with at the time, and it quickly just became a one man show.
Dirt Cult’s been going strong ever since, throwing money into the bottomless pit that is DIY punk rock and loving every minute of it.
