Sundowners – The Largers Half of Wisdom LP (preorder) OUT MAY 26th

Sundowners (not to be confused with Sundowner) is a DIY punk band from Minneapolis that’s been around since 2006. They’ve released Gnome & Glacier LP and a S/T 7″ on Dirt Cult Records in the past, so I’ve obviously been a fan forever, but this record still blew my expectations out of the water. Urgent and complicated melodic punk that will get stuck in your head for days. Seriously, I listened to this to about 4 weeks straight before I finally decided I should put on another record. FFO Frozen Teens, Future Virgins, Toys that Kill, etc.

The LP is scheduled for release on May 26th, but I’m hoping that preorders can be sent out earlier (so long as everything goes according to plan with the plant…which is somewhat unpredictable these days). Limited to 100 on color vinyl.

Big Dick – S/T LP out today!

Yay! This record is finally officially out. As many of you know, we did a preorder for this an we’ve got a couple limited edition green copies left…but, hey, this record sounds great regardless of the color. Instead of repeating myself from previous posts, I’m just going to cut an paste what Brookyln Vegan Had to say and provide you with some links to radio and podcast appearances as well as some links to reviews.

“It’s hard to talk about Ottawa, Ontario bass/drum duo Big Dick (named after the song by post-hardcore wizards NoMeansNo) without referencing another Canadian bass/drum duo, Death From Above 1979. They share DFA1979′s relentless energy, stabbing rhythms, and distorted bass riffage, but they do it punkier and noisier, not unlike fellow Canucks METZ (who they’ve shared bills with). And they do it with a Japandroids-style 2-piece-that-sounds-like-a-5-piece level of power. If you’re fans of any of the aforementioned bands or any type of melodically abrasive post-punk and noise rock, do yourself a favor and give Big Dick a listen. Their self titled debut full length comes out next week (2/19) via Dirt Cult Records and it’s one of the most impressive debuts I’ve heard this year so far.” – Brooklyn Vegan

Here’s a link to their appearance on Life is a Party Podcast: http://www.lifeisapartypodcast.com/LIAPP/LifeIsAParty/Entries/2013/2/18_Episode_49_-_Big_Dick.html

New International Shipping Procedure

As many people know, the USPS have increased shipping charges by quite a bit this weekend and as a result we’ve had to reevaluate how to handle international orders. We’ve decided that the most fair way to do this is to erase international shipping from our store and send an invoice after the order is complete to cover the exact shipping costs. This means if you are ordering from the store, you will not be charged for shipping at checkout, but I’ll send an email with what you owe in order for the records to be shipped out.

Here is the best breakdown I’ve seen of the increases:

Outside of North America for Airmail
1oz-2oz $6.55
3oz-4oz $9.45
5oz-8oz $12.75
9oz-12oz $14.90

4lb $38.95

Global Priority:

6lb $55.52

BIG DICK – S/T LP to be released on Feb 19th!

Big Dick are a drum & bass due from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada (you know, how of pretty much all of the best bands of the past few years). Named after the belligerent and bass-heavy Nomeansno song, Big Dick have cultivated their sound that borders on progressive punk/post-hardcore tendencies, while also gravitating towards both the melodic and absurdly heavy. This band is equally at ease with their penchant for 90′s era Canadian indie rock as they are with punk, hardcore, and noise rock bands of the last three decades…the results being a memorable live show that breaks down traditional sub-genre party lines and the record you now hold in your hands.

Long story short, Big Dick rule. I had the opportunity to catch them at last year’s Ottawa Explosion, and as soon as I heard the record I knew Dirt Cult had to be a part of it.

Go ahead and download a track (Schoolyard Violence) from the new record here:

Bobby Joe Ebola and the Children MacNuggits – Trainwreck to Narnia (w/ download code) out now!)

When nightly news outpaces political satire, when death and despair are merely filler between ads for erection pills, the world is ready for Bobby Joe Ebola and the Children MacNuggits. The mutant offspring of poisonous pop culture, truth-to-power punk rock and button-pushing standup comedy, guitarist Dan Abbott and vocalist Corbett Redford watch from the deck of civilization’s sinking ship… and laugh.

The band began in 1995 as an acoustic duo, becoming unlikely antiheroes in the DIY underground with raw social satire, catchy-as-heck melodies and high-energy performances. After nearly a decade hiatus, the band reformed in 2009, joined by a rhythm section consisting of bassist Sean McTiernan and drummer Josh Wharton (both of Mystic Knights of the Cobra), and second guitarist Craig Billmeier (guitarist for Love Songs, Conquest For Death, What Happens Next?, and also known as internationally renowned air guitarist “Hot Lixx Hulahan”). Since then, the band has toured and recorded relentlessly, with a catalogue of releases and music videos unheard of for an independent act.

Difficult to categorize, awkward on a flyer, and impossible to forget, the “pretty songs about terrible things” of Bobby Joe Ebola have become the soundtrack of the “Great Recession” & civilization’s “Slow Apocalypse”. The band continues to make appearances both as the traditional acoustic duo and with with the full band lineup.

Dirt Cult is happy to be handling the vinyl release of their new LP Trainwreck to Narnia with Rooftop Comedy is handling the CD and digital distrobution.

Tracklisting:
1. After the Armadillo
2. Vanilla American
3. Blues Turn Brown
4. Cop Kisser
5. Biological Imperative
6. My Darling Boo
7. Backed Beans & Whiskey
8. Walk in the Crosswalk
9. Bone Dagger
10. Censor the Word
11. Hey Everybody!
12. Last Child Soldier

DAN PADILLA – SPORTS FANS LP (out now)

After some slight delays this record is finally ready…just in time to sorta kinda maybe be considered a 2012 release…After months of being available digitally via Bandcamp, and as a special color vinyl preorder to anyone who “donated” a certain amount of money towards the digital release, the record is finally ready to ship. If you missed it, grab a copy now. This shit is indeed tight!

Every time a band releases a new record, both the band and label putting it our are going to say it’s their “best yet.” But hey, Dan Padilla sent me this record long before Dirt Cult even knew who was putting it out and I was saying it then. I’ve got the e-mails to prove it. Plain and simple, this is melodic and heartfelt DIY punk from some of the most genuine dudes you’ll ever meet.

Comes with a digital download. Also, its now available on Itunes.
