Out now: The Stops – Nameless Faces LP

Shipping now!
Self-described as “5 ladies playing punk rock.” The Stops quickly became one of my favorite Portland, OR bands since Dirt Cult made the move a year and a half ago. This, their debut LP, definitely adds to Portland’s reputation for dark but melodic punk rock (see: Red Dons, The Observers, The Wipers). The band plays driving distorted punk that is at times informed by power pop. Think of a band that somehow combines the seemingly disparate  influence of The Adolescents, The Wipers, and The Go-Gos and you’re in the right place. Members of Red Dons, The Pedestrians, and Pataha Hiss. This is the North American version. Sabotage Records is handling Europe. First press limited to 100 on green vinyl. 500 on black

Dirt Cult Podcast

As if things aren’t busy enough around here, I impulsively started a podcast. The first two episodes have aired with more to come. Right now, its just me sitting in a room, talking a bit, and playing songs – but there are plans in the works to start bringing people in. Should be a fun little experiment. You can check it out/subscribe at either of these links:

Canadian Rifle – Sexually Fucked b/w You Are My Junk 7″

Ok ok, I know it doesn’t seem fair that I’ve been releasing about a record per week for a month, but with pressing plants they way they are (crazy delays and things just going into production…whenever they feel like getting to it), it’s been hard to wait around for every release to roll in before announcing/putting them on sale. But I swear, this is the last one in the batch for at least a month!

Canadian Rifle – Sexually Fucked b/w You Are My Junk 7″
Recorded in Germany during a recent European tour, Canadian Rifle return with 2 more bleak, gruff, and misanthropic melodic punk songs. 100 on blue vinyl. 200 on black. Comes with download code.

A few more pre-orders: NEW SWEARS – Junkfood Forever, Bedtime Whatever LP and Bank Pages – No Reception 7″

Just got word that two new records will be shipping to me next week and thought I’d go ahead and put them up for preorder.

Ottawa’s original party animals are back with their  second full length LP; Junkfood Forever, Bedtime Whatever! The band has been said to sound like “Mean Jeans partying with the Black Lips,” and that description continues to be pretty spot on. However, this time around, in addition to the revved up; surf tinged; catchy as hell garage rock, the band experiments with country (“Sweet Donna”), riffy space rock (“Cool Aid”), and indie pop (“No Fun”). But don’t mistake that experimentation for the band beginning to take themselves too seriously. This album is chalk full of carefree energy, and it’s coming out right in time to be the soundtrack to a truly epic summer. Comes with a download code

Blank Pages are from Berlin, Germany and play dark melodic punk that sounds a bit like The Marked Men covering the Wipers. This single includes two killer songs recording in Portland, OR while embarking on their first (and, sadly, last) US tour, that are the perfect follow up to a their self-titled LP we released last year.  The band just completed a European tour and announced that they are breaking up. And while this is unfortunately, we’re happy to have had the opportunity to bring the majority of their catalog to the US. Members of Modern Pets and Life Fucker. Comes with a download code.

der Faden (ex-Statues) – Best Guess b/w Filaments pre-order

Several years ago I sent Rob from Statues (Deranged Records) an unsolicited e-mail praising his band and essentially begging him to allow me to put out a record. A few months later, I had the pleasure of meeting Rob in Ottawa, Canada while on tour with my band Low Culture, and had the bittersweet experience of watching Statues play their last ever show. Rob apologized and explains that the band would obviously not have any new material for a Dirt Cult release. A few years later, I met up with Rob again and he briefly told me about a new band he had started with his fiancé Sarah (The Johnnies) and he would send me the tracks. A few weeks later, he sent me the two songs that appear on this 7” – and the rest is history as they say.
der Faden plays powerful and catchy power pop, and these two songs are frankly either 1) better than anything Statues has ever done (which is saying a lot!) or 2) the best thing Rob has done since Statues fantastic “New People Make Me Nervous” LP. What can we say? We’re super excited about this 7” and hope that the world enjoys it as much as we do.
This record should be shipping any day now – we have records. Just waiting on covers.

VVHILE – More LP – Shipping now direct. Available in stores on at the end of May.

VVhile is duo from Belgrade, Serbia formed in May, 2011. The band is Stevan Cirovic on drums and vocals and Andrija Spicanovic on guitar and vocals.

The band plays atmospheric, psychedelic, and shoegazey rock reminiscent of early Ride or My Bloody Valentine, all the while remaining rooted in their hardcore pasts.
Following the Dirt Cult release of their debut 7″, we jumped at the chance to be a part of releasing their debut LP in North America.

Bad Future – Night Church Cassette + Catholic Guilt/Bad Future tour

Surprise! We’ve just released a limited cassette from Bad Future for their tour (happening now! See dates below) with Catholic Guilt!

Bad Future – Night Church tape

Bad Future play driving, grimey punk that’s pretty difficult to describe. The best I can do is say imagine Jawbreaker taking a stab at Amphetamine Reptile style post-punk. But regardless of how you wanna codify things, this Seattle band is great – playing amped up, urgent punk rock. Limited to 200 copies. Comes with a download code.

Big Dick – Disappointment LP out now plus stream!

Hey everyone,

Since we got the records well in advance of the actual Feb 24th release date, we’ve decided we’re gonna go ahead and put up Big Dick – Disappointment LP for sale via mailorder only.

Here’s some info about the record:
Big Dick return with their second LP! The band is a duo featuring drums, bass, and dueling vocals from Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Named after a NOMEANSNO song, Big Dick has cultivated a sound that borders on progressive punk and post-hardcore, while also gravitating towards both the melodic and absurdly heavy. This is a band equally at ease with their penchant for 90’s era Canadian indie rock as they are with the punk, hardcore, and noise rock bands of the last three decades – the result being a memorable listening experience that breaks down traditional sub-genre party lines . Disappointment serves as an anthemic celebration of failure and inquietude for fans of Death from Above, Japandroids, and just good music.

Blue vinyl (limited to 100) can be purchased here
Black vinyl can be purchased here
