Dirtcult Records–News

Iron Chic/Low Culture – Split 7″, Crow Bait – Separate Stations 7″, Hysterese LP, Catholic Guilt 12″ preorders up!

We’ve got A TON of records at the plant and decided to go ahead and make them available for you. Preorders are up for the following releases! All should ship by late November, but if you know anything about how pressing plants operate these days, be prepared for a December release date.

You can check them all out here on our new and featured section of our site or see individual links below

Iron Chic/Low Culture – Split 7″
split release with Dead Broke
200 on orange vinyl (Dirt Cult exclusive), 200 on blue vinyl (Dead Broke exclusive, but we have some copies), 400 on green, 100 FEST test pressings, 700 on black

Having toured together on the East Coast/Canada as well as the Southwestern desert, the Iron Chic and Low Culture decided that the next logical step would be to release a split 7″ – and not just a split 7″, but a split label/split 7″ between Mike from Iron Chic’s Dead Broke Records and Chris from Low Culture’s Dirt Cult Records.
Iron Chic – Fucking fantastic existential, anthemic, and melodic punk rock. I don’t really feel the need to say much more. You know who these guys are. This is their first release since their well received, Bridge Nine released “The Constant One” LP last year.
Low Culture – After releasing their debut LP “Screens” in 2013 on Dirtnap Records, the band has seen members fan out all over the place (including Santa Fe, El Paso, and Portland). But there’s no plans of slowing down (too much). Features members of Shang-A-Lang and Marked Men, and sounds pretty much like a cross between the 2 bands, with the former’s distinct songwriting style mashed together with the latter’s tighter, cleaner performances. These recordings are the results of the band’s first trip into a “pro” recording studio, sounding cleaner but no less effective than past material.

Crow Bait – Separate Stations 7″
split release with Drunken Sailor (UK)
100 on translucent green, 400 on black

Hot of the heels of their debut LP entitled “Sliding Through the Halls of Fate” on Don Giovanni Records, Crow Bait returns. The band is from New York featuring three guys that you probably know from past and current projects such as Sister Kisser, and Iron Chic. But if you’re checking this out on the basis of the band members’ past and current projects, expecting to hear another “Not Like This” or “Vipers” – two very good records for the record – prepare to be left scratching your head. Crow Bait, while clearly looking forward, is also clearly trying to create something that resembles the music they grew up on – Goo Goo Dolls, Buffalo Tom, The Replacements, etc. And they do a damn good job. If you’re like me, and you never change the dial when a good 90′s alt-rock song comes on the radio, this record is right up your alley.

Hysterese – Hysterese LP
100 one white, 250 on black

A little bit hardcore – a little bit garage, Hysterese is from from Tübingen, Germany and they play dark, melodic, and powerful punk rock. I’ve been struggling with a point of reference on this one (they have a pretty unique sound!). So lets go with The Soviettes and Marked Men getting together to form a hardcore band. Yeah…that works. Whatever this is, it’s fucking great!

Catholic Guilt – Catholic Guilt 12″
100 on translucent yellow, 250 on black

Catholic Guilt are from Austria, and they play dark, dense, and discordant hardcore punk that fans of classic 80′s hardcore like Poison Idea, Die Kreuzen, and Articles of Faith as well as more recent bands like Sickoids. An all around great record, that we’re eager to share with you.

Also, in case you missed it, we put up Feral Trash – Trashfiction LPs up for preorder last week. This one will be shipping a bit sooner (unless, of course, it’s purchased with one of the above records). Should have these on hand early-November. Fronted  by Eric Neurotic of Fear of Lipstick/Varsity Weirdos, Feral Trash plays dark and melodic punk – just the way we like it – for fans of Allvaret, Masshysteri, and the Vicious.

FERAL TRASH – TRASHFICTION LP pre-order and stream

FERAL TRASH – TRASHFICTION LP
A simple 3-piece from the small eastern (often overlooked) city Of Moncton NB, Feral Trash play cold, anxiety ridden songs about the shitty world they see around them. Formed over a winter of Nyquil, hash and too many Wipers records, guitarist Eric Neurotic (Fear of Lipstick, Varsity Weirdos) sought out members of the darkest band in town (Thalidomy Kids) and recruited them to start something new. After releasing their surprisingly well received Dead Eyes EP in 2013 (well received by their standards), Feral Trash took the next logical step and went to the studio to record their debut album Trashfiction. FFO: Masshysteri, The Vicion, Vann Inget, Allvaret, The Creeps, etc.

For just $100 (basically you’re paying wholesale prices on all releases) you will receive of the next ten full lengths on 12″ vinyl (or two 7″s – which equal one full length). So it could be five full lengths and ten 7″s or eight full lengths and four 7″s, and so on. Make sense?

Oh and if there is a limited color version of the record (which there is 9 times out of 10), you’re receive that version!

Oh and with every shipment, we’ll throw in some cool free stuff like distro records, posters, CDs, etc.

Crow Bait – Separate Stations premiere

We are excited to announce we’ll be releasing a new Crow Bait 7″ by the end of the year. Though no formal release date has been set (we’re guessing sometime mid-December maybe), Noisey has premiered the title track here

Here’s some info about the record:

Hot of the heels of their debut LP entitled “Sliding Through the Halls of Fate” on Don Giovanni Records, Crow Bait returns. The band is from New York featuring three guys that you probably know from past and current projects such as Sister Kisser, and Iron Chic. But if you’re checking this out on the basis of the band members’ past and current projects, expecting to hear another “Not Like This” or “Vipers” – two very good records for the record – prepare to be left scratching your head. Feral Trash – Trashfiction LP song premier

Feral Trash – Trashfiction LP will be out October 26th, but in the meantime, check out a song premier from Exclaim. CA here

Some info about the record:

After releasing their debut 7″ on Dirt Cult over a year ago, it was a given that we’d jump on the opportunity to work with these Moncton, Canada punks again. And did they ever deliver!

I swear there is something about extreme climates – it doesn’t seem too matter if its too hot (see the American southwest) or too cold (see Canada and Norther Europe) – that acts as a petri dish for killer punk rock.

Fronted by Eric Neurotic of Fear of Lipstick (It’s Alive/P Trash Records), Feral Trash plays dark and melodic punk – just the way we like it – for fans of Allvaret, Masshysteri, and The Vicious.

The record will be limited to 300 copies, 100 on color vinyl.

Split release with Mammoth Cave (Canada)

Baby Ghosts – Maybe Ghosts LP preorder

This record will be out by mid-August, but we’re going to go ahead and put it up for preorder.

Jangly, quirky, dreamy, and lo-fi punk from Provo, UT. I suppose you’d call it “indie” if that label meant anything at all anymore. Maybe Ghosts is filled to the brim with reverb soaked male/female vocal harmonies, minor chords, and a few swirling guitars here and there. This release brings to mind some of my favorite early Lookout releases from the likes of Cub and Go Sailor, but while these songs come across as sugary and sweet they start to reveal a darker edge with repeated listens. Come to think of it, the cover art really says it all – “hey that’s a really cute kitty…holy shit! That kitty is wearing corpse paint!”

On three different colors of vinyl – black (300), red (100), and blue (100). Comes with a download code.

Split release between LOST CAT, DIRT CULT, HIP KID, DRUNKEN SAILOR (UK), & WATERSLIDE (Japan) records.

Stream it from punknews here

OH AND AS AN ADDED BONUS, ANYONE WHO PREORDERS FROM NOW UNTIL FRIDAY JULY 25TH WILL HAVE THEIR NAME AND ADDRESS FORWARDED TO THE BAND. THEY’LL PICK 15 TO 20 NAMES AT RANDOM AND SEND THE “WINNERS” A COOL PACKAGE WITH THINGS LIKE A JAPANESE CD VERSION OF THE RELEASE, PATCHES, POSTERS, AND MAYBE EVEN A TEST PRESS.

A ton of preorders up now!

I don’t think we’ve ever had as many records hit all at the same time as we do for June 2014! So we’ve decided to put all our new records up for preorder. This will all be shipping in the coming weeks:

Autonomy/No Sir I Won’t – Split 12″

Lost Split 12″ LP recovered from the vaults by Dead Broke & Dirt Cult. Autonomy is originated from Carbondale, IL. and play a Crass-inspired brand of dark and melodic anarcho-crust punk. No Sir, I Won’t are from Boston (members of Brain Killer, Awful Man, etc.) and give that Conflict-style assaulting peace punk. Oi.

Color vinyl available here

Black vinyl available here

Needles//Pins – Shamebirds LP

Airtight power pop from Vancouver, Canada for fans of Steve Adamyk Band, Sonic Avenues, Gentleman Jesse as well as classic Canadian power pop bands like Teenage Head and Pointed Sticks. But this stuff isn’t just a carbon copy. Needles//Pins have a sound all of their own.

Blank Pages – S/T LP

Berlin’s Blank Pages released one of the of the best records on the 2013 on Hardware Records out of Germany and Dirt Cult is rereleasing it for their upcoming US tour. Amazing dark and melodic punk for fans of The Fall and The Wipers, as well as contemporaries such as Red Dons/The Observers.

Fur Coats – The League of Extraordinary Octopuses LP

Awesome power pop from Marc Ruvolo (Johan’s Face Records, No Empathy, The Traitors, Das Kapital), Davey Houley (Das Kapital), and Devon Kay (Direct Hit!, Devon Kay and the Sollutions).

Apocalypse Meow! – Baseball and Alcohol 7″

Another killer melodic punk band from Minneapolis! Apocalypse Meow! features Justin Francis from Off With Their Heads as well as John and Jub from Sundowners playing catchy and clever songs about, well, just look at the title of the record. The download features a Rivethead cover that won’t be available on the 7″.
